Exploring Oahu

Our first full day in Hawaii sent us exploring the most populated island, Oahu.  We used a touring app that combines the power of your smartphone's GPS signal and its link to the car sound system.  As your drive a predetermined route it offers some navigation guidance and information of about the landscape.

We are staying at the Marriott Resort and Spa in Waikiki.  Lovely view of the ocean from our balcony.  The weather in Hawaii is pretty easy to forecast, especially on Oahu.  Sunny with daytime highs in the mid 80s.  Night time lows in the mid 70s.  The variable in the forecast is often the winds.  Today through Thursday there is a strong onshore flow.  That produces some pretty tall waves.

The top picture in the sequence is on a beach where there are plenty of rocks.  According to the Hawaii Park Police announcement over their loudspeaker the state records a large number of broken necks and backs at that beach.

Moving down this trio of images the middle one is from the North Shore.  Traffic along the roads was miserable as surfers flock to areas near Waiamea to get close to the Banzai Pipeline.

The bottom image is wave action through a "blow hole" which is entertaining.

People pictures.  On this segment of our tour Carol, Tom, Laura and Michael are with us.  Lots of beach or near beach posing today.

It's hard to find places that aren't beautiful to photograph.  The middle image is courtesy Jan Conti.
